BY CAR

Roads are mostly in good condition in Costa Rica and it is safe to drive your own vehicle. 

There are many car rental agencies to choose from. You can get wifi with your rental car so can easily navigate with Google maps or Waze. Most roads are paved as is the road to Turrialba so a 4x4 is not necessary but recommended if you would like to visit places on the Nicoya Peninsula, near Corcovado or Monteverde.
